Anthropic Files for Nasdaq IPO, Lifting Chip Stocks Despite AI Debt Worries
Anthropic, the maker of the Claude chatbot, filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday for an initial public offering. It plans to list its Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol "ANT" (proposed NASDAQ: ANT), the company said. The share count and price range have not been set. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are named as contacts for the prospectus. Reuters has reported that the company may seek to raise as much as $100 billion, and that some investors value it at about $1.5 trillion, down from earlier expectations near $2 trillion, per a Reuters factbox.
The filing also spells out an unusual governance setup. Anthropic is a Delaware public benefit corporation, and the S-1 describes a Long-Term Benefit Trust that elects a majority of the board through a special share class. A separate share held by the co-founders will carry 50.1% of the general voting power. Public buyers would get economic exposure but limited control.
Markets treated the filing as a vote of confidence in the AI trade. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) rose nearly 3%, Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) about 3%, and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index more than 3%, Reuters reported. The bigger reversal came in the neoclouds. CoreWeave (NASDAQ: CRWV) and Nebius (NASDAQ: NBIS) had fallen earlier in the session after Elon Musk predicted a shakeout among AI-only cloud providers, then turned higher after the filing, rising 5.7% and 2.3%. Investing.com said the filing helped "soothe jitters" about debt-backed infrastructure spending, though U.S. stock futures pointed broadly lower Tuesday.
The filing also connects to other big AI deals. Anthropic disclosed compute commitments with SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) and xAI for Nvidia-based capacity of about $3.1 billion a month once fully delivered, which it expects in December 2026, with terms running into 2029, Yahoo Finance reported. Axios counted roughly $235 billion in AI financing announced in a single day, adding SpaceX's $40 billion GPU debt deal and Meta's plan to raise up to $95 billion to Anthropic's IPO target, Axios noted. It also said Anthropic has committed about $750 billion to computing power in the coming years.

Why it matters
Anthropic would be the first frontier AI lab to trade publicly, which gives markets a direct price for a business that has so far been valued only in private rounds. Analysts quoted by Reuters said that could change how chipmakers and infrastructure firms are valued, with OpenAI's possible listing next. This is reporting only, not investment advice.
