Musk Pledges SpaceX Shares to U.S. Children Ahead of SpaceX Earnings; Anthropic and NVIDIA Announce New Deals During Chip-Stock Slide

October 19, 2026 · Category: Business & Tech

Elon Musk said in a post on X early Monday, October 19: "Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many." The pledge was large on paper and thin on detail. Axios reported he did not specify whether "kid" meant all minors under 18 or say who would be eligible; it calculated that one share for each of the just over 72 million people under 18 in the U.S. would be worth a little over $10.5 billion at Friday's closing price for SpaceX (Nasdaq: SPCX) of $146.03 Axios.

The BBC reported that details of how shares would be distributed have not been disclosed, and that the pledge followed Musk's reply to Anthropic's newly announced public benefit fund: "I recommend giving the shares directly to the public. This is what I will be doing." BBC. SpaceX, which the BBC reported owns xAI, said it will post third-quarter 2026 results after market close on Tuesday, October 20, with an audio webcast at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. PT) SpaceX.

Anthropic, for its part, is locking in computing capacity for decades. It has signed a lease of at least 20 years for the first phase of a data centre that EverWind Fuels will build and own at Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, CBC News reported. The first phase is planned at 95 megawatts by the end of 2027, with a second, 325-megawatt phase in 2028, and EverWind said it is raising $8 billion for the data centre plus $2 billion for wind farms CBC News. Separately, the BBC reported that Anthropic told prospective investors its revenue rose 45% to $16.8 billion in the quarter ended in September; Anthropic had not published that figure in the sources reviewed.

NVIDIA's news landed in a falling market. The company announced on October 16 that RTX Spark laptops from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and MSI are available starting at $2,599 NVIDIA, and that it and Mercedes-Benz will extend their partnership to develop next-generation automated driving systems NVIDIA. The same day, Investing.com reported, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 3.83%, its eighth straight decline and longest losing streak since October 2008, amid concerns over AI spending, financing costs and valuations Investing.com.

Why it matters

Musk's pledge is, for now, a stated intention rather than a program: timing, eligibility and delivery had not been announced in the sources reviewed. SpaceX's October 20 results are the company's next scheduled official disclosure.

Anthropic's Nova Scotia lease is another example of AI companies locking in long-term computing capacity. The BBC-reported revenue figure came from investor-facing information rather than a public filing, which makes it a reported number, not a disclosed one.

NVIDIA's product and partnership announcements arrived in the middle of a broad chip-stock selloff. The cited market report attributes that decline to sector-wide concerns, and no source reviewed tied a share-price move to NVIDIA's October 16 announcements. This article is not investment advice.
